What Area of Life is Jupiter Expanding Right Now?
We’re all born with a birth chart. An energetic snapshot of when we took our first breath in this world. Jupiter was somewhere on that chart. But! Planets keep going. And so Jupiter has continued to circle around your chart, interacting with points and planets and what have you for the entirety of your life.
The cool thing about Jupiter is that it spends roughly one year in each of the twelve signs and houses. And since we live in a world that uses the Gregorian calendar, Jupiter is a convenient and fun way to zoom in and see what kind of themes are currently coming up for you.
Today, we’re going to focus on what “house” your Jupiter is currently sitting within because houses represent areas of life. They happen right before our eyes.
SO HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE JUPITER IS?
Enter your birth date, time, and location. And yes, you will need all three of those variables for this post to be helpful. Houses in astrology are based on the exact time you were born.

On the next page, select “natal chart and transits” under the “chart type.”
Under “start date,” put the current day’s date.
Everything else can stay as is.
Click the green “show the chart button.”
Below is a photo that’s similar to what you’ll see. Look for the bright green Jupiter icon on the outside of the circle. It looks like a fancy number four.
From here, you’ll be able to see what house it’s in. The circle is broken up into 12 slices and is labeled 1-12 at the center. What slice is your Jupiter currently within? Again, see the photo for reference.
Before I walk through each of the twelve houses, it’s important to note that the general function behind Jupiter is that it expands. It WANTS to help you, so long as you pay attention and practice discernment.
Keeping that in mind, there are three typical responses to Jupiter:
The first is that in the house (area of life) Jupiter is transiting, you notice opportunities and / or feel an impulse to expand. And so, you have faith in yourself, take a leap of faith, and succeed. Jupiter brings good tidings.
The second is that you notice those same opportunities and / or feel that same impulse to expand, but forget to practice discernment. All that glitters is not gold and you get side tracked by big ideas or opportunities that aren’t actually in alignment. In this scenario, what may seem like good tidings at first falls away in misalignment.
The third is that you notice those same opportunities and / or feel that same impulse to expand, but do nothing. You don’t believe in yourself and stay right where you are.
So let this be your encouragement to believe in yourself. When Jupiter is in this particular house (area of life), the energy is supportive. 🖤
NOW LET’S TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE HOUSES
1ST HOUSE: With Jupiter here, you may find yourself questioning and / or coming into your own, authentic identity. The first house is also the beginning, so there is inertia here. How do you want to kick off the next 12(ish) years? Where are you going? Have faith in yourself, in who you really are, and go after what you want, so long as it is in alignment. Just take the first step. Begin.
2ND HOUSE: If the first house asks “who are you,” the second house asks “what do you need?” Basic needs, of course, but Jupiter wants to go beyond that. What are your creature comforts? Not in a materialistic way, but in a way that reflects your values and desires. Often referred to as the house of money, the opportunity for financial expansion in some way, shape, or form may be found during this time to support those needs. Look for it. Do not underestimate yourself. Put in the effort. It may be easier than you think.
3RD HOUSE: Now that you have a better handle on who you are and what you need, the third house asks you to collect information. Communicate. Listen. Read. Learn. Jupiter wants you to stay curious and open minded. Sort through it all and then maybe you’ll even feel called to share. Speak. Write. The theme here is data in, data out, in whatever form is of interest to you.
4TH HOUSE: While the last house was a bit busy, the fourth house is the house of home. A deep exhale. A time to expand your capacity for rest and healing. To find and / or cherish your safe physical space in the world. Maybe you make your home more of what you need. Maybe you even move. Maybe you take refuge within your family or found family. Maybe you tend to your heart. In short, Jupiter shine’s its light on the emotional needs of your inner self and your home.
5TH HOUSE: Now that you’ve rested, it’s time to have fun, seek out pleasure, and be creative. In whatever way feels good and in alignment for you. Simply put, the fifth house is joyful and Jupiter is asking for more of it. Does joy come easily? Or do you need to practice the discipline of joy? Either way, you need it. So let yourself have it and enjoy.
6TH HOUSE: This is a somewhat “back to reality” moment, as the fun of the fifth house gives way to your daily responsibilities and rhythm. How can you improve them? How can you improve yourself? How can you be of service to others? Maybe you focus on building your craft. Maybe you focus on health and wellness. Maybe you focus on routines and efficiency. It’s work, but Jupiter wants to make it good, meaningful work.
7TH HOUSE: The seventh house is all about 1:1 relationships. Love, yes. But also friendships and business partnerships. Are you in search of any of these kind of relationships? With Jupiter here, these people are here to support you, lift you up, bring love and / or companionship to your life. Look for the right people and remember that who you are is innately worthy of this reciprocity. It’s time to trust.
8TH HOUSE: In contrast to the friendly vibes of the seventh, the eighth is more intense. Here, Jupiter wants you to dive deep, excavate anything that’s hidden / anything that you don’t want to deal with, bring it to the surface, and heal. No biggie, right? What’s waiting for you on the other side is pure transformation. Soul evolution. Power. It’s challenging work, but it’s also freeing. The key is to be radically honest with yourself every step of the way and get support if you need it.
9TH HOUSE: After all of that deep, inner work, the ninth house feels like a breath of fresh air. Here, you are in the house of expansion. Jupiter’s friend. It’s time to get out of your box and widen your perspective on life. Why are we here? Who knows, so let’s experience it and gather a little wisdom along the way. Maybe you travel. Maybe you go to a different part of town. Maybe you learn something new that fascinates you. In short, this house is not about what’s familiar. See what happens when you embrace something different.
10TH HOUSE: Now that you’ve gathered some new experiences in life, we find ourselves at the top of your birth chart. Your higher calling and / or career. I mention the former because sometimes you get paid for it and sometimes you don’t. Why are YOU here? What’s your mission? What part of your heart do you want to expand into the world, in big ways or small? Career related or not, believe in yourself and go after *the thing* that is important to you. Maybe you seek out aligned work. Maybe you get a raise. Maybe you start your own business. Maybe you start a family. Let it be growth in the best, most soul fulfilling way.
11TH HOUSE: As we near the end, we come into the house of community. You’ve learned a lot along the journey and now is the time to share something from your heart with a group of humans that means something to you. Think of this as a wider group that you are a part of. This could be other women. Other LGBTQ folks. Other parents. Other activists. Groups of people that come together around similar interests, causes, and / or values. How can you help them? How can they help you? Also, PS. this house is also the house of long term goals and plans, so you may find expansion in those areas as well.
12TH HOUSE: The end of the journey is about recognizing that ultimately, we are all one. Jupiter is expanding your form of spirituality in this house. Or, in other words, whatever connects you back to oneness. This could be as literal as religion or as non-literal as staring at a flower in a garden. During this time, you may feel more spiritual, more creative, more quiet, more open to the magic and mysteries that surround you. And that is perfect.
PLEASE NOTE
With all of this, please remember that astrology is a complex system.
For one, houses (areas of life) cover a wide variety of life experiences. While I shared core themes here, there are many things (like siblings, that’s the 3rd house or university, that’s the 9th house) that fit within these areas as well. Feel free to Google if you’re curious about more possibilities. Sharing all of that here would require the space of a book.
And, for two, signs are involved. Planets besides Jupiter may be hanging around. Other transits you’re experiencing may have a more noticeable, life altering affect.
It’s complicated, but this post serves as a simple starting point. A point of self inquiry. Somewhere, big or small, Jupiter is taking its stand and asking you to expand.
