Aries Season : Branded
This is an ongoing series where I create a moodboard for the current sun season, combining my knowledge of astrology with graphic design as a creative exploration. If you have a lot of Aries placements, feel free to use elements that resonate as a form of inspiration for your own brand. My end goal is to create moodboards for each sign as an artistic reference point.
Red eyeshadow by Ellen Simone, Sonic by Maddy Nye, Red bubbles by Anika Starmer, White tee red lips of Valeria Lipovetsky, Vaquero font by Ocotillo Design Studio, La Fonda Del Sol by Alexander Girard, Hands holding drinks by Cantine Cotiere, Tulip light by Hal Haines.
It’s 6:07 am as I write these words. Early, I know, but my toddler will stomp around at any minute now so this is normal for me in this stage of life.
And, as with all previous seasons, the experience of creating these posts has been a study of the sign weaving itself into my everyday reality, with Aries being particularly potent.
For starters, these words started asserting themselves in my mind before I could attempt to squeeze in another 30 minutes of sleep. So I grabbed my phone and began to write, unsure of where I was going but going anyway.
As the first sign of the Zodiac, fiery Aries has yet to pass through any of the other elements. It hasn’t dealt with the realities of Earth or the pondering of Air or the emotional depths of Water. It just … goes for it.
Pure energy.
Pure survival.
My aforementioned toddler and I planted some seeds at the beginning of Aries season. Tomatoes, peppers, and other veg, too. Within a handful of days, sprouts shot up straight out of the soil, as thin as can be. From seemingly nothing comes something and sometimes I can’t fathom how life DOES survive. How that tiny little sprout becomes a strong stalk that can hold something as heavy as a butternut squash. Or, how my own toddler at one point was said to be the size of a chia seed and is now walking and talking and playing imaginary Costco in our living room bay window.
But perhaps the most Aries thing I personally experienced during this season was the impulse to chop off 12 inches of my hair. My safety blanket, gone. I feel lighter and brighter and honestly a whole lot fiercer.
As you can see, the central focus of Aries is the development of courage. While this doesn’t mean that people with heavy Aries placements come into this world completely fearless, it does mean that they carry a extra healthy dose of assertiveness. Of passion and will and determination, fear be damned. The more they do the things that scare them, the more resilience they build. The more courageous they feel.
And that is the point.
SO LET’S MAKE ARIES VISUAL
Continuing my very Aries experience, the creation of this season’s moodboard was mind bogglingly fast. Usually, I scroll around Pinterest in small pockets of time for about a week until I’ve gathered 60ish images that begin to tell a story. This time? One 10 minute power session and I had all I needed. Even better, when I opened all of said images on Illustrator, I intuitively grabbed 14 of them as my eyes saw fit, literally threw them onto my canvas, and thought “huh that looks good.” Minus a few spacing tweaks, this moodboard built itself.
Which means that I created this entire post, words and all, in about an hour, a far cry from what it usually takes me at my more Earth heavy speed.
So thank you Aries. That was a nice change of pace.
As far as details go, color was my inroad, with red being an obvious first choice. But less obvious was the subtle addition of green. As the marker of the Spring equinox and the astrological start to the new year, Aries has a natural resonance with new beginnings. And, like I mentioned before, sprouts shooting up and out of the Earth are metaphorically a great representation of this. Hence the green. But really, anything that says “look at me, here I am” will work.
For type, bold letterforms came to play. All caps and funky stuff, too. To be honest, I don’t really have any more nuance to add — it’s all straight forward with Aries.
For imagery, you’ll see portraits of people staring directly at the camera, or if they aren’t, a loud and proud outfit or confident attitude makes it complete. There’s illustrations of hands shooting up into the air, the sun, simple shapes, wavy lines. I even got into a niche corner of interior design where people chose red as an accent color in small ways. Where it was just the dining chairs. Or just the trim. Or just the border around a mirror. And I thought that looked really cool and really Aries, so here it is. But really, anything that feels a bit bold is going to work well for this season.
And there you have it! At 6:36 am, nonetheless. Not too shabby. ;)
If you have a lot of Aries energy in your chart, I’d love to hear from you and your life experience. I personally have zero Aries placements and a peaceful Taurus in Mars (the ruler of Aries), so the innate energy of this season REALLY stepped up to help me out in a big way this time around. I didn’t second guess anything or nitpick over imagery placement or word selection. It just … happened. Happy thank you more of that please!
